A different kind of ambassador

Professional experience.
Responsible by design.

This is not a role for selling vapes around campus. It is a selective opportunity to apply research, communication and project skills to tightly controlled adult-market work.

What it is

Approved projects with a real business team.

Selected students may support adult-consumer research, factual content review, retail insight, event operations or Guardian youth-prevention work under a written brief.

What it is not

Not a campus sales or influencer scheme.

Ambassadors must not distribute products, publish product promotions, target student audiences indiscriminately, make health claims or represent their university as endorsing RELX.

Your project syllabus

Learn by doing.

Actual assignments depend on business needs, legal review and your skills. Applicants are never promised every project type.

Module 01Insight

Adult consumer insight

Help structure or review research involving verified adult customers, without collecting personal data independently.

RCA · INS 101
Module 02Content

Factual content review

Support clarity, accessibility or cultural review of retailer-owned information. Public product promotion is excluded.

RCA · CNT 204
Module 03Retail

RCA · RTL 220
Module 04Guardian

Youth-prevention insight

Support Guardian awareness, responsible-retailing observations and clear reporting of possible underage exposure.

RCA · GRD 301

What you can gain

Experience that belongs on your CV.

Benefits depend on selection and the approved project. No applicant is required to use any RELX product.

01

Real project briefs

Work with a UK e-commerce team on defined tasks, deadlines and outcomes.

02

Portfolio feedback

Receive practical review of selected work where confidentiality allows it to be shared.

03

Skills and references

Develop research, communication, project management and responsibility skills. References depend on completed work.

04

Written project terms

Any approved fee or expense arrangement is confirmed in writing before work begins and remains subject to law.

Who can apply

Start with the essentials.

Meeting these conditions allows an application to be reviewed; it does not guarantee selection.

You are aged 18 or over

Age verification is required before participation. Under-18 applicants cannot be considered.

You are a current UK university or higher-education student

Current student status must be verified. Do not email identity documents until the team requests them securely.

Your proposed audience and environment are adults only

Projects must not target, include or be reasonably expected to reach under-18s.

You can follow a written brief and approval process

No activity, post, event, message, code or material may go live without written approval.

You are interested in professional work, not free products

The programme does not offer free vape or nicotine products and does not require product use.

Application journey

Five steps.
Every step reviewed.

The programme is selective. Some applications may be held for a later brief or declined if there is no suitable compliant project.

01

Send your application

Tell us about your university, course, skills and the adult audience you understand.

02

Eligibility check

We review age, student status, location, interests and possible audience risks.

03

Compliance conversation

Suitable applicants discuss boundaries, available work and the approval process.

04

Written project brief

Scope, deliverables, timing, confidentiality and any approved terms are confirmed.

05

Complete and review

Carry out only the approved work, submit it privately and review what you learned.

Non-negotiable standards

Responsibility comes first.

A breach may end an application or project immediately. Legal and university requirements always take priority over a brief.

×No under-18 reach

Do not target, recruit, feature, message or collect information from anyone under 18.

×No product sampling

No free vape or nicotine products, giveaways, prizes, handouts or trial activity.

×No public social promotion

No influencer posts, stories, videos, discount codes, affiliate links or public recommendations.

×No unapproved campus events

No stands, society sponsorship, posters, displays, parties or university-branded activity without written legal approval.

×No health or lifestyle claims

Never claim that a product is safe, healthy, stress-relieving, socially enhancing or suitable for non-users.

×No independent data collection

Do not collect names, contact details, ages, order histories or research responses unless an approved process is provided.

Programme transition

Built for the rules ahead.

UK rules are changing. RELX UK may restrict, redesign, pause or close the programme whenever required.

Current programmeStrict case-by-case review

Only factual, controlled and adult-focused work under written approval. Existing UK restrictions on online promotion already apply. See ASA guidance.

29 October 2026Free distribution restrictions

The upcoming rules prohibit free distribution of vaping and nicotine products. This programme does not offer product sampling or free vape products.

1 June 2027Comprehensive advertising and sponsorship ban

The UK intends to bring the wider ban into force from this date. Activities may end or change before then. See the government update.

Programme FAQs

Before you apply.

The review team may request further information if a suitable project is available.

Do I need to use RELX products to apply?

No. Product use is not required, encouraged or treated as an application advantage. The programme is based on professional skills and responsible adult-market work.

Can a student under 18 apply?

No. Applicants must be at least 18 and able to complete age verification before participating.

Will I post RELX content on my social media?

No public product promotion, influencer post, discount-code content or affiliate link is part of this programme. Do not publish anything about a project without specific written approval and legal review.

Do ambassadors receive free products or personal discounts?

No free vape or nicotine products are offered through this programme. Any lawful project fee or expense arrangement is confirmed separately in writing and is never guaranteed by an application.

Is my university involved in or endorsing the programme?

No, unless RELX UK and the institution have expressly confirmed a separate written arrangement. Applicants must not use university logos or imply institutional endorsement.

How will age and student status be checked?

Do not send documents with the initial application. If you progress, the team will explain the evidence required and the appropriate submission method.

Is selection guaranteed?

No. Applications are reviewed case by case against current business needs, compliance risk, available projects and programme status. The team may decline or hold an application without offering work.

What happens when the advertising and sponsorship rules change?

The programme may be restricted, redesigned, paused or closed before the new rules take effect. No participant has a right to future assignments, and the latest written programme notice always applies.
